MGA.MGR. PAVEL TRNKA

About the author

My main interests are drawing, painting, graphics and illustration. In recent years, I have been intensively engaged in large-format angular drawing depicting various forms of landscape. I would divide my work into two main branches: a more realistic drawing and a more experimental drawing, in which I use different materials such as rust, ash, copper, ink. In terms of subject matter, the most important for me now are trees, rocks, life underground, natural processes associated with impermanence, the transformation of the landscape. I like to be inspired by Chinese landscape painting and its philosophy emphasizing the harmonious relationship between man and landscape.

Recently, I have been working on a series of drawings inspired by plein air sketches from the Drahan-Troja Nature Park in Prague, which will be affected by the construction of the motorway bypass. I am trying to study the overall landscape as well as individual trees, stones, animals in the plein air. The series of drawings started with studying trees in small diary entries. The trees gradually became the main motif of several large-scale paintings. I am increasingly interested in brush and ink painting, which I work with in the plein air, but also on larger formats in the studio.
